Aaron Hernandez John 3 16
Updated April 23, 2017
As you may already know by now, former professional NFL football player Aaron Hernandez committed suicide on Wednesday 4/19/2017. He did so by hanging himself inside his jail cell with standard bed sheets. When he was found dead he also had John 3:16 written across his forehead, hands and feet in red ink. This was Hernandez allusion to how Jesus had blood on those bodily areas due to being nailed during the crucifixion. As a devoted Christian Catholic, Hernandez wrote this often quoted bible verse on himself for reassurance and to reach the courage he needed to go through suicide.
As quoted from the Bible, John 3:16 (Gospel of John chapter 3, verse 16) states that, “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Quite literally meaning that those who are faithful in god will not die when their body dies, instead their soul will transition into eternal life in heaven.
The video above is a tribute for Hernandez. Long live Aaron Hernandez, always and forever. That is the essence of what John 3:16 means, eternal life or life after death. Aaron will live on in our minds and in his daughter’s veins. Hopefully Aaron is reunited with his father, whom he very much needed and missed growing up as a young teen. Who knows, perhaps with his father’s guidance Aaron wouldn’t have had as many behavioral issues which were his ultimate downfall.
Being that I’m from a similar demographic as Aaron, I related to him in that sense and felt really saddened by him not pulling through out of his difficult situation, instead opting to take his own life. Many great tributes have already been made, but I still wanted to make my own homage. This is in part because whenever I’ve had personal woes, I would recall cases such as Aaron Hernandez’s and selfishly think to myself, “Well I’m in a really bad position or I messed up this time…but at least I haven’t landed in jail like Aaron Hernandez, who seemingly had it all but now lost his freedom.” These immature thoughts, for better or for worse, have helped me through rough patches.
I always wished and thought Aaron would eventually regain his freedom though. For reasons we can only speculate on, he unfortunately wasn’t strong enough to continue the journey.
To his detractors I can only say that you should not judge him as you were not there when the crimes he was charged with were committed. Even if he was guilty on all counts, no man deserves to die in the mental and physical agony that Aaron Hernandez resorted to in a successful albeit tragic attempt to escape his reality. I can only try and somewhat understand why someone under these tough circumstances would take this desperate route.
It is said that the highest beacon humanity can reach is not that of justice, but one step further, that being compassion. I feel that way towards Aaron, a man who I never met. I feel we should be less judgemental and try to be more compassionate and understanding, especially towards people like Mr. Hernandez, who allegedly hurt others.
It is them, offenders, who need the most help from society. Instead of wishing Aaron a heavy punishment in the form of a long sentence, imagine if we as a collective society had wished him rehabilitation in the form of a better environment and treatment. Perhaps in that scenario he wouldn’t have felt enough hopelessness as to feel the need to hang himself and leave behind a daughter who will grow up without a father, in the same fashion in which he grew up without one.
Long live Aaron Hernandez, I won’t soon forget you friend. Although I am not particularly devout, I hope for what is alluded on verse John 3 16 to manifest itself onto Aaron, and he obtains the eternal life he expected. May you now rest in peace Aaron Hernandez.
Why Did Aaron Hernandez Commit Suicide?
As authorities often do when they don’t have answers for motive, they spin up stories like a tabloid. The current rumor they have spread to the media is that Hernandez was bisexual. They are now saying that this was the possible reason why he allegedly killed Odin Lloyd, who may have known about this and threatened to out him about his sexuality. The problem is, officials had said in the past that Aaron killed Odin Lloyd because he knew details about the other two murders Hernandez was charged with. As it stands right now, they have no concrete proof that Aaron Hernandez was indeed bisexual, furthermore they have no proven motive on why he allegedly killed Odin Lloyd. Sounds to me that both the media and investigators are concocting theories without any real proof and speaking ill of the dead while doing so.
Couldn’t the explanation as to why he killed himself be that he realized, “This is it. These gray walls are where I will live for the next ~50 years.” With the life conviction for the Odin Lloyd case unlikely to be overturned with appeals; civil lawsuits from the other two cases coming up, he just couldn’t take it anymore. Maybe he just saw his life for what it had become, a big mistake. At least by committing suicide the Odin Lloyd conviction would automatically be voided, as it was, therefore protecting some of his remaining financial assets from the incoming civil lawsuits, and ensuring the money goes to the next of kin, that being his daughter Avielle Janelle Hernandez.
An alpha male like Aaron Hernandez, who at one point had so much power and dominance, was mentally and physically exhausted of the isolation and frustration that comes with being caged like an animal. He was all about himself, quite an egocentric character as seen by his actions, his family wasn’t enough to keep fighting incarceration and the legal system. He thought he would be better off dead, didn’t like the state having control over his life, so he took back control by hanging his body.
Could Aaron Hernandez have been murdered?
There are “truthers” out there making up conspiracy theories about the possibility Aaron was murdered in his jail cell. Hernandez’s lawyers even launched an investigation to look into the circumstances surrounding his death, since they too couldn’t believe why Aaron would kill himself having just been acquitted of a double murder charge. All the evidence up till now suggests this was in fact a suicide however. There were no signs of struggle and the cell was locked, making it impossible for someone to get in or out. Furthermore one must analyze the situation, to find the culprit of a crime you must find who would benefit from it. The only one who you could say somewhat benefited from Aaron’s death was Aaron Hernandez himself. He dodged more prison time and voided his remaining conviction, which again helps save some of his family’s assets.
