So you have a couple of used fine jewelry pieces that don’t sparkle like they used to. And we get it, taking them for a cleaning can be costly and/or time consuming. It is precisely for those same reasons why those precious albeit dull metals are tucked away in some drawer for no eyes to see. Fear not, there is no need in using special toxic agents to bring your
dirty old “vintage” jewelry back to life! With this DIY guide, it’s much easier to make your jewelry look like new again than you’d think…
1. First, gather a small bowl, a tablespoon of salt, one tablespoon of baking soda, one teaspoon of dish detergent, and a cup of hot water.
Additionally, you’ll need to have some some aluminum foil, paper towels, and an old toothbrush close at hand.
2. Next, cover the inside of the bowl with aluminum foil. Add your mixture of salt, baking soda, and dish detergent to the foil.
Once everything is in place, add the hot water and wait for it to fizzle. Now it’s time to drop in your jewels.
3. After letting your jewelry sit in the mixture for ten minutes, remove it and use your toothbrush to clean around any small crevices.
This works on any material.
4. Enjoy your newly restored jewelry.
It is remarkable that these four easy steps can luster those tarnished gems we tend to have from time to time.
